Women’s Career Society - Tips of the month

It is once again time for Tips of the Month. This month we hosted a sustainability themed Afterwork together with SEB. You can read more about the event here. To continue this important theme, our board members Mia, Camilla and Ella are going to give their personal tips on how they implement sustainability in their everyday life.

Who are we?

Our community aims to inspire young women in finding a career path and to unite like-minded students to build a wide network. We believe that stronger networks build confidence, boost individual strengths and enable people to motivate each other. Through our events and social media platforms we seek to motivate our network by presenting different career possibilities and lifting up role models.

Mia Klemetti, Board Member

Tell us about yourself?

I am Mia, a first year Bachelor’s student planning on majoring in Finance and minoring in Accounting at Hanken. At WCS my main responsibilities include merch, organizing the annual Workshop event, and developing the website.

Best part of being a WCS board member?

Meeting so many new people! The events have offered so many opportunities to get to know new like-minded people. I’ve also made so many new contacts and friends through WCS which has been amazing.

Your tip of the month?

A KeepCup! You can buy one here!

Why did you choose this recommendation?

If you know me, you know that I drink way too much coffee! But with every takeaway coffee comes also waste. Having your own takeaway cup with you is easy to implement in everyday life and cuts down your annual waste significantly. I personally use a KeepCup!

Camilla Komulainen, Head of Brand and Social Media

Tell us about yourself?

I am Camilla, a second-year finance student at Aalto University. In WCS, I am in charge of developing the brand, creating content and running the social media channels. As a person I am quite active, and I spend most of my free time either on long runs by the sea or testing out new restaurants with my loved ones.

Best part of being a WCS board member?

The best part about being a WCS board member is that I get to be apart this group of amazing and ambitious women doing important work in empowering and uniting business minded female students.

Your tip of the month?

Paloma Wool - Clothing Brand

Why did you choose this recommendation?

I try to buy clothes only second hand but when buying something new, I opt for brands that manufacture locally, are transparent about their supply chains and offer good quality clothing. This month I purchased some pieces from Paloma Wool, a spanish designer whose designs are unique and production transparent. I was very happy with the pieces and wanted to recommend Paloma Wool to our community.

Ella Norja, Board Member

Tell us about yourself?

I’m Ella, a second-year student from Aalto University School of Business majoring in Information and Service Management. In addition to my studies at Aalto, I’m also studying Environmental and Natural Resources Economics at University of Helsinki. Taking my studies into account, I regard sustainability related things with great passion.

In the WCS board 2022, I act as a board member and I’m responsible for couple of events and projects throughout the year - for example SEB Afterwork was one of my responsibilities.

Best part of being a WCS board member?

I think it is important that women support other women and the best part of being a WCS board member is to be able to do that concretely.

Your tip of the month?

Non-materialistic presents

Why you chose this recommendation?

By buing a non-materialistic present to someone, you can avoid making waste since you can make sure that you’re not buying something that the person is never going to use. You’re giving a memorable experience and can also support a local entrepreneur by purchasing their services. This month, I purchased a gift card from restaurant Nolla for my friend. The name ”Nolla” is related to the restaurant’s aim to minimalise the amount of waste they produce so it goes nicely hand in hand with the idea of sustainable present. Food at Nolla is also yummy so if you’re lacking in present ideas, I recommend it!
