Tip of the month: Christmas holiday activities to wind down and relax

Stella, Consultant at Bain

Stella’s Christmas holiday tip: Take time for a good read

Tell us about yourself?

I’m Stella, a Consultant at Bain on my third year. I studied finance in Aalto Business School but only until my bachelor’s thesis – at that point Bain had convinced me to join them full time after my internship.

Having started at Bain in the middle of pandemic, I’m used to sharing lame “fun facts” as a virtual ice breaker: My fun fact is that Alexander runs in my father’s side of family as the males’ middle name. I’m the eldest of five sisters – so to continue that tradition, my parents named our dog Kenneth Alexander. Friends call him Kentsu, though!

I relax by reading and I’m piling up new books on my read list faster than I have time to tick them off. Though I often prefer fiction over non-fiction and would describe my type of literature along the lines of teenager romances set in Italy, this book made an exception: Glass Half Broken by Ammerman and Groysberg discusses the gender imbalances in the workplace that still remain, and more importantly, how we can overcome those. This one inspired and resonated!

Pauliina, Consultant at Bain

Pauliina’s Christmas holiday tip: Start a new Christmas tradition

Tell us about yourself?

I am Pauliina, an associate consultant at Bain & Company. I joined Bain four months ago, after completing my master's degree in Industrial Engineering and Management at Aalto University.

More about your tip…

With my family, we have an annual tradition to go ice swimming on Christmas morning. Not only does ice swimming boost the immune system and reduce stress, but it also gives a perfect start to the Christmas celebration together with loved ones. This year, I am aiming to do ice swimming more regularly throughout the Christmas holidays!

Lyydia, Recruiting & Employer Branding at Bain

Lyydia’s Christmas holiday tip: Let your creativity flow!

Tell us about yourself?

I am Lyydia, I work with recruiting and employer branding at Bain & Company while also doing my master’s degree at Hanken. I joined Bain five months ago and so far, the best part of my job is meeting inspiring women and being surrounded by likeminded, ambitious colleagues.

More about your tip…

Put on an interesting podcast or your favourite Christmas playlist and make some personalised DIY Christmas cards or gifts. Choose any form of art and enjoy, my favourites are acrylic paints and ceramics. Not only will your friends and family love these thoughtful gifts but expressing your creativity also relieves stress, improves your cognitive function and boosts your self-esteem.
