Women’s Career Society - Tips of the month
Women’s Career Society presenting the first Tips of the month!
In celebration of the "WCS goes Tech" week, we’ve had the possibility to interview two of our board members to give their personal recommendations for the month of February. They are both studying at Aalto School of Science and joined Women’s Career Society for board of 2022.
Who are we?
Our community aims to inspire young women in finding a career path and to unite like-minded students to build a wide network. We believe that stronger networks build confidence, boost individual strengths and enable people to motivate each other. Through our events and social media platforms we seek to motivate our network by presenting different career possibilities and lifting up role models.
Matilda Varhe, Aalto University
Tell us about yourself?
I’m Matilda, a second year Bachelor’s student majoring in Finance as well as first-year Computer Science student at Aalto. I act as the Head of Collaboration in WCS board of 2022.
Best part of being a WCS board member?
The best part being a member of the WCS board is the opportunity to inspire and empower other women in their career paths while working with an amazing group of ambitious women.
Your tip of the month?
“Thinking, Fast and Slow” by Daniel Kahneman.
Why you chose this recommendation?
Given the opportunity to share my tip of the month with you it was a no-brainer to recommend my all-time favourite book “Thinking, Fast and Slow” by Daniel Kahneman.
Kahneman’s masterpiece is an entertaining read for anyone interested in human rationality and irrationality. The book was consistently entertaining and continued to surprise me with its engaging and thought-provoking examples. For those already familiar with the intriguing piece, Kahneman’s new book Noise: A Flaw in Human Judgement is a fascinating read.
Henriika Ylä-Nikkilä, Aalto University
Tell us about yourself?
I’m Henriika a MSc student at Aalto University School of Science. With a focus on strategy and industrial engineering and management, I’ve been able to combine finance and strategy with an understanding of the technological field. I act as a Board Member in WCS 2022 board.
Initially, I chose industrial engineering, because I wanted to look at things with a broad perspective, and understand the combination of technology and business. With this degree, you can gain a deep understanding of whatever interests you, or include a bit of everything into your degree, which is quite fascinating! I don’t consider myself a very technical person, but being able to speak the same language with coders is valuable.
Best part of being a WCS board member?
The best thing for me is simply being able to contribute to such an important mission, with a like-minded and motivated team. Sharing inspiration and support is extremely valuable.

TechCrunch Daily Crunch newsletter
Why you chose this recommendation?
I enjoy following newsletters because it is an effortless way to stay updated on current topics. One of my favourites is TechCrunch’s Daily Crunch newsletter, which collects the latest innovative startups and technologies, biggest headlines, and VC funding updates from the field.
